34th Surfman Award: Donald Crowdis

We live in a fast paced world where the thoughts of our own mortality rarely cross our minds, thinking that we have plenty of time on this blue marble to accomplish our goals...and that tomorrow is another day. However, what if there were no tomorrow, what than? Basically, ladies and gents, seize the day!!! If you take nothing more from Mr. Donald Crowdis' blog, it is just that. Mr. Crowdis is 93 years old, and was a guest host on the CBC's The Nature of Things, he has spent a lifetime bringing science to masses and he does not want to go from this life...he still has much to do. His writings have touched me in a way, that makes me want to take a few chances and have no regrets when all is said and done. I have always secretly wanted to be an actor, but have been afraid of failure or risks that go hand in hand with such a profession...just maybe, its time to put one foot in front of the other...no regrets, right? Mr. Crowdis's blog is important to me and many people, this kind man's words can teach us much...if you have the opportunity, please check it out...you wont be disappointed.

In keeping with my blog theme about good people doing good things or things that just make us happy, this weeks surfman goes to Mr. Doug Jones who is portraying none other than that "skyrider of the space waves", THE SILVER SURFER. I can hardley wait till The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is released this summer. Doug had to endure anywhere from five to seven hours in the makeup chair to prepare for his role to represent Zenn-La's prodical son and saviour. If Doug does as good a job portraying Norrin Radd, as he did Pan, than we long time Silver Surfer fans will be stoked with joy. I have been a fan of the surfer since I was a lad, owning a coveted mint copy of Vol.1,No.1 August 1968 The Orgin of the Silver Surfer, which I sold back in the 80s to pay my last months rent before graduating from university. I still own a fair copy of that issue, but I often wonder what my mint copy would go for today. I am not too sad though because the surfer saved the day when I was broke. All hail the Sentinel of the Spaceways, and fabulous actor Doug Jones as well.
