This is the last Surfman Award of the year and I feel a rather bit sheepish awarding a coveted "surfman" to a shoe maker, but lets face it, we spend all day walking on these tired old feet of ours and we deserve a sensible and nicely designed shoe to make our lives easier and more pleasant. Our friend Krissy has a blog called Iheartsensibleshoes, and I know that she would totally approve of my last surfman award being given to comfy shoemakers. In this case, I found on the last day of 2006, a beautiful pair of Merrill desert boots with a Surfer motif on the sole...does it get any better??? These desert boots take me back to my chilhood whre I wore nothing but. My mother was a firm supporter of the tan suede comfy soled booties, and here I am wearing a pair in my adult years...how sweet is that! Thank you Merrill for these awesome surfer boots, I am thrilled with the design and "pillow" like feel of the shoe...2 surfmans up to the designer.

This past Friday I had the pleasure of viewing Reg Harkema's film Monkey Warfare and I will thrilled with the final product. I thought Reg captured Toronto quite well and at the same time allowed us to have a laugh at ourselves. Well done Reg!!! And what a wonderful cast, with Don Mckellar, Tracy Wright, Nadia Litz and many more. This film was also the first to be shown in the newly refurbished Royal Theatre. The new owners, Theatre D digital did a great job and saved an historic landmark, a hugh thank you from the surfman and all Torontonians. You guys get HERO status on this one.

28th Surfman Award: Holiday Spirit People

I was walking home one night early this month and I almost fell over after witnessing this spectacle of lights. I am truly amazed that our own fellow citydwellers get so caught up in the holiday spirit that they wish to pass on a little bit of merriment to the rest of us. It doesn't take much to put a smile on the face of another human being, and yet we spend so much of the year living in our own personal bubble. There are many factors like religion, economics and politics that divide us and tear us apart; however, deep down most of us care about the same thing - family, friends, and the state of the world. May spirit capture us all with little and big gestures alike...push it forward people!!!
