Eva & Kris are the owners of Tsunami Glassworks in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. They continue to amaze me with the beauty of their glass art. They are both extraordinarily talented and very nice people. Today in the Globe and Mail their CELL BOWL was picked from The Interior Design Show 2006 to be featured in the Style Section. Congratulations to you both and thank you for the joy that you bring people with your work. Two surfboards up!

5th Surfman Award : Scully

I had the pleasure of being given an early recording of 7 of Scully's songs 3 year's ago and I was simply taken aback by the vocal range and hard hitting melodies that seeped not just into my eardrums, but my soul. I was seeing a whole new side to my amigo, who on occassion can dispense truths like daggars, albeit to much laughter. This recording was raw, emotional and reminded me of the kind of music that Neil Young use to play back in his Toronto coffee house circuit days. The 7 songs were free of the usual studio production tricks that turn some great music into run of the mill overworked lyrical paperweights. Scully says in one song "that things have changed so much, that I barely recognize myself", well lets hope that once he releases his recordings to the public, he recognizes them! Overworking songs into the ground in the studio is the error of many a woulda, shoulda, coulda been! This weeks Surfman Award goes to you Scully, for the way your early recording made me feel and the hopes that you keep it real when you finally release it.

Have you ever had a friend who could always make you laugh when you needed it most. A friend who always knew just what to say and never judged you when you were being a total bonehead. That is this most excellent dude, who many moons ago drove the surfman across the american badlands, interacting with a herd of wild mustangs and a July snow storm to his safe port. Our vehicle was an 18 foot white whale of a station wagon we baptized as "Moby", and I am quite certain that if Doc hadn't been driving, we would have been singing with the angels. Thank you amigo! And thank you for your 18 years of friendship, may there be many more!
