143rd Surfman Post: Sixto Rodriguez

Last night I saw this incredible documentary at the Bloor Cinema called Searching for Sugar Man. It was about this forgotten Detroit musician Sixto Rodriguez who should have been a sensation back in the 70's but never really caught on. His music was fantastic and the man himself proved to be bigger than life. He was humble, kind and a gentle soul who gave far more to others than he took back. It was so incredible to see his reaction when he found out that he was bigger than the Stones in South Africa, and the genuin love that South African people
had for him. It was sad that he had never become big in America, but it never seemed to bother him. I can barely desribe, the feeling I felt listening to his music and discovering a new musician through this wonderful documentary, I am now truly a fan. The world is lucky indeed to have people like Sixto Rodriguez in it...thank you!
